This handmade, jointed filigree necklace is made of high quality silver and possibly crafted in France, Italy or Mexico. It is beautiful and delicate but has no hallmarks, so its origin and type of silver are unknown.
Historic Note: The ancient art form of filigree calls for manipulating and twisting wires of metal to form intricate, lacy patterns. Filigree jewelry has been noted in French fashion from the 1600s through the 1800s, and was a technique used in Art Deco styles as well. However, the origins go much further back with ancient Mesopotamians and Greeks producing thousands of known pieces of filigree, the oldest found dating to approximately 5,000 BC!
